WMFE Channel 24 broadcasts its own production of A CITRUS LEGACY, an in-depth story of the life and times of the people who shaped central Florida's history with the citrus industry. Central Florida is recognized worldwide as a top tourist destination. With world famous theme parks and attractions, the Orlando area has become identified as the play land for the world. However behind the commercial glare, lies a history that helped shape the economic legacy of Florida, a citrus legacy.

A CITRUS LEGACY tells their story, the trials and tribulations of the early pioneers of the citrus farms and the people whose meager orange groves would blossom into a multi-billion dollar industry. Among Florida's original citrus pioneers to answer the call were the Phillips and Dr. P. Phillips, William C. Roper, Philip Caruso and Sydney and Joshua Chase. Each planting the seeds of Florida's citrus legacy. A CITRUS LEGACY describes the up and down struggles of the central Florida citrus growers and how their work led to the development of one of the most profitable industries in the country and spurred the commercial development of the central Florida area.

This documentary is dedicated to the more than 5,000 families who pioneered the spirit of the Florida citrus grower. A CITRUS LEGACY is a production of WMFE Channel 24 and funded by a grant from THE DR. P. PHILLIPS FOUNDATION. The documentary's producer is Gregory Trent and executive producer is Les Anderson. Actor James Best narrates the program.
