It took 40 years for WMFE’s former president to cross his public broadcasting “finish line.” At that
celebratory moment, WMFE could have given him a gold watch.

But instead of the watch, WMFE gave Stephen McKenney Steck a trip to Athens, Greece to run a
26.2-mile marathon. We told him: Steve, bring back a story!

In this last of three features, we finally have our ending to Steve’s Story.”

Steve is joined in this final feature with remarks from:

Jerry Schuetz
Athens Runner – from pancreatic cancer recovery
to “running all day long!
  Deena Kastor
2004 Olympic Marathon
Bronze Medalist, Athens

Jerry Schuetz:
J.B. Schuetz is a B-Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer survivor who started his marathon running career while recovering from cancer surgery in the fall of 2003.

His motivation was to run his first marathon (the first Nike Marathon, October 2004) 6 months after chemotherapy.  He completed this goal with the encouragement and the coaching of the Southwest Florida Team in Training group, which is a fundraising arm of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  J.B. has completed 15 marathons and is currently training for his 10th Team in Training event - the San Antonia Marathon.  This spring, at the Paris Marathon, he became engaged to Erica Lolli who is a fellow cancer survivor and Team in Training member.
